Adventures in Redfish, Trout and Sharks at Redfish University-September 7, 2010

Guided James and Renee Macrellis this morning. The Macrellis’ are soon to be new residents to the Pensacola area and wanted to get a quick preview of the area’s inshore fishery for both great-eating fish and entertainment fishing. Met the beginning anglers this morning at 530am and set off to find some redfish and trout over to the east. Topwaters and subsurface were both on the menu and it wasn’t long before redfish and trout were clearing the rails. We had some super topwater strikes and put a few fish on ice for dinner. We were able to cover some other productive areas before ending back west to catch whatever swims including Spanish mackeral, bluefish, ladyfish and sharks. The sharks really put on a spectacular aerial show today after being hooked. Lots of fun!  The Macrellis’ will now have an incredible headstart when they make their move here this Fall and find a boat of their own. A few redfish and trout for the grill and all other fish released. Please click an image to enlarge and view...

Redfish, Trout then shark fishing at Redfish University-September 6, 2010

Guided Kyle and Brett Lawrence this morning. The brothers were looking for some redfish and trout action in the early morning hours then some shark fishing during the last part of the trip. Started at 515am and ran way east in search of redfish and trout. We found the bite to be a little slow in some areas that are normally outstanding. Made an adjustment and really started hammering the speckled trout with some redfish mixed in. Some fish took the topwaters and some on the Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads. After the early morning action, we shot off to the beach to do some sightfishing for sharks. Got on the trolling motor on the east and west side of Pensacola Pass but only saw one shark that was not at all interested. Cruised back inside the bay and checked a few more shallow flats for cruising sharks. Nothing. We even found it difficult to scrape up a few ladyfish and bluefish. Ended up hitting an area where I knew there were sharks of all sizes although we weren’t going to see them. We found plenty of sharks and the runs were extremely consistent. Ended up boating 8-10 sharks between 2-5 feet. Lots of fun on light tackle and had some very large fish on the 4/0 rod only to drop the hook. All fish released today. Trips all week with a few openings next week. Book now to experience Redfish University!! Please click an image to enlarge and view...

Quick topwater speckled trout trip at Redfish University-September 5, 2010

Guided Mr. Jim Stanford this morning for a very quick topwater trip. Started fishing at 545am and we were done at 900am in time for my traditional Sunday brunch at the Hilton. Lots of speckled trout and a handful of redfish were found in two very productive areas. Most of the trout were 16-22″ with some smaller ones mixed in. Also found a few oversized redfish in the shallows as well as a tarpon that just wouldn’t take a bait. All fish...

Lots of speckled trout but no redfish at Redfish University-September 3, 2010

Had a short topwater trip this morning back in Pensacola Bay. Took off at 515am and quickly ran east to some shallow flats. Great topwater action most of the morning but the fish were only on one stretch of bank. Found some very nice quality speckled trout and did hook one over-sized(32-35″) redfish only to have the hooks pull at the boat. That’s topwaters for ya!! Switched over to Gulp! Jerkshads as the sun rose with similar consistent success. Back at the ramp at 930am and kept 5 nice trout for dinner. **Saturday and Sunday are open this weekend because of a last minute cancellation so take advantage and experience Redfish University. In any event, it will be nice to have the weekend off!! E...

Eastern Santa Rosa Sound at Redfish University-September 2, 2010

**Last minute cancellation this Saturday and Sunday if anyone is interested in booking with Redfish University this Labor Day weekend. Fishing is always great at Redfish U.!! Great opportunity to fish with RU.  Guided Mr. Kevin Reynolds this morning in the far eastern reaches of Santa Rosa Sound. Hit the water at 530am and ran way east. Pulled out some topwaters and Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads and got after it. Lots of nice speckled trout, some decent redfish, but also lots of undesirables such as ladyfish, bluefish and jacks. Made some small adjustment and stayed on the redfish and speckled trout. Poling some shallow areas and found the redfish to be pretty cooperative compared to the western end of the South(less boat traffic and anglers.) Got some very nice redfish to take our 3″ Gulp! Ghost Shrimp in 2′ of water. Lot of fun this morning with a very good angler. **Notice** Had a last minute cancellation on Sat and Sun, so those days are now open. No big deal, love to have the weekend off but the fishing at Redfish University has been stellar if anyone wants to go Sat. and/or Sun(Labor Bay...
