Daily double at Redfish University-April 20, 2010

Two trips today!  Guided T and Rich this morning. These guys are very good anglers and lots of fun to fish with. Hit the redfish and trout first thing in the upper bays and then headed west to find some pompano. No pompano today so we looked for cobia for an hour. No luck. Headed inside to sight fish some redfish and then found a school of jacks again. Lots of fun on topwater and jigs with light tackle. Inconsistent pompano at Redfish University-April 19, 2010

Guided Mr. Bob Willice this morning. With some pretty decent success with the pompano last week and over the weekend, we hit the beach for some pompano fishing. Covered almost three miles of beach without a bite or a pompano sighted. Very inconsistent pompano fishing lately. Hit some redfish and Spanish mackeral on the way back. Also sight fished a few redfish inside the bay on some shallow flats. All fish caught on Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads and all fish released. Bob and I will hit the pompano again next Tuesday or Wednesday. Bob WILL catch some pompano from the boat on artificials!! Please click on an image to enlarge and view...

Shallow redfish at Redfish University-April 9, 2010

Guided Mr. Bob Willice this morning. I’m guiding out of the Maverick 17HPX for a week or so, so we decided to go shallow and stick some redfish.  Started out on a very shallow flat and found redfish everywhere. Some fish were cooperative and some were not. Eventually found that the fish in around three feet of water were ripe for the taking. Stuck some very nice fish as well as few nice speckled trout. Also, saw a speckled trout that was over 7 pounds but the smaller(2.5#) trout ran down the bait. Bob also had an epic  redfish strike right next to the boat. The 30″ fish was chasing the bait as Bob worked it to the boat. He slowed the bait down and the fish did a head-stand and inhaled the Gulp! 5″ Jerkshad. It was a classic view from the poling platform that I will remember for a long time! Anyway, Bob’s next adventure involves the challenging pompano in a few weeks. All fish caught on Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads and Johnson 1/4oz. Gold Spoons. All fish released. Please click an image to enlarge and view...

Berkley/Penn Tour update March 25-27, 2010

As a Berkley Pro Staff angler, I have some great opportunities to travel and introduce anglers to new products from the world’s largest fishing company, Pure Fishing. From March 25-27, I joined Berkley Marketing/Team Coordinator, Scott Dubiel, and FL/GA/AL Senior Regional Sales Rep., Kevin Benton, for the 2010 Eastern FL Panhandle Berkley/Penn Tour in Panama City, Destin and Port St. Joe. Highlights of this year’s event included the new Penn Conquers, the Penn Torque Spinning reels, the Penn Sargus Series and the new Berkley Gulp! Ghost Shrimp. As always, we stayed at the beautiful Bay Point Marriott and will return in the summer with the Penn Tour for the 2010 Bay Point Invitational Billfish Tournament. The Berkley/Penn Tour will visit Pensacola, Gulf Breeze and Navarre on May 20-22. See everyone there! Had a few days off from guiding but back at it hard next week with trips Mon-Saturday then heading to WalMart in Bentonville, AR. next Monday and Tuesday. See everyone soon! Finally found them at Redfish University-March 16, 2010

Guided Mr. Fred McGafferty and Mr. David McGafferty this morning. Started out in the upper bays looking for redfish and trout but the combination of dirty water and little water movement from the neap tide made things difficult. Picked off one 5.5# speckled trout and a few smaller ones. Also got a few small redfish. With things looking grim up there, we decided to cruise south in search of clear water and redfish. We immediately found a great area to sightfish redfish in the 29-42″ range. Stuck plenty of 12-21# redfish in 4-8ft of water. All fish caught on Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads rigged with Marsh Works Jigheads. Also worth mentioning, these big fish were taken on 6# and 10# Berkley Crystal and Spiderwire Ultracast InvisiBraid. All fish release. Heading to Jacksonville tonight for the first HT3 Cup East event. See everyone next week!! Please click an image to enlarge and view...
