Guided Mr. Jim Greeson and friend, Richard, this morning. With rain all around, we dodged rain showers and lightning most of the morning. Started at 515am with some topwater action for the normally pretty consistent speckled trout and redfish. Only had a few blowups in the first ten minutes so we switched to Gulp! Jerkshads pretty quickly. We immediately started catching small to medium-sized trout and no redfish. Ran to another area to find the same small trout bite with one 5# fish being the exception. Went to a recently very productive redfish bank and only picked up one decent fish but also scored a few large trout in the 4.5-5# range. Ended the day catching a few decent redfish on a marshy bank but really never hammered the redfish like in recent days. Plenty of speckled trout but the redfish were tough. All fish released. Guided Mr. and Mrs. Griffith this morning for some redfish and trout action. Phil commented early on the beautiful full moon setting and wondered if the bite was going to be difficult. My focus was to put them around as many fish as possible(a great full moon plan) and their job was to catch them. Both anglers were very impressive and caught multiple fish using a few proven techniques. Started out at first light and approached some great topwater banks to find them being pounded by 1-2′ chop. We tried the topwaters for a few minutes but I think the fish were pretty freaked out in the washing machine. Switched to Berkley Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads and began hammering fish. Plenty 0f 3-4# trout and Phil stuck the most perfect 27″ redfish I have seen in a while. Right at 27″ and 7.5#. He was thrilled! Changed locations to a more protected bank and found redfish and trout slicks everywhere. Stuck some more 3# trout and a few 4-5# redfish. Ended up making a very productive little milkrun and found fish nearly everywhere. Fished a bank I hadn’t visited in some time and absolutely smashed the redfish on a shallow sandy bottom. Lots of fun today and lots of action. All fish caught on Gulp! Jerkshads in camo and rootbeer rigged on Marsh Works jigheads. The Griffith took 3 Redfish and 8 big trout for a future cookout. Guided Mr. Bob Willice this morning. Stiff wind out of the southeast forced us to hide in some protected water. Started out very early with some topwaters for speckled trout and redfish. Threw over shallow sandy bottom and had some incredible topwater action with mostly big trout and a few redfish. Some trout were pushing 4.5# but most of the redfish that we caught were predictably small. After the topwater shut down, we switched over the Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads and pitched sandy troughs and bait filled banks. Stuck some more very nice trout and a few more redfish. By 1000am, the action had slowed drastically and we struggled the rest of the morning but I did win the “Catfish Challenge”, 3-1. They sure like the Gulp!! Anyway, caught a bunch of topwater trout and lots of action early. All fish released. See ya on Monday, Bob!! Please click an image to enlarge and view...

Redfish University continues normal guiding operations from Pensacola to Panama City(Port St. Joe). On days off, we will assist with BP oil spill issues if the need arises. With a long string of trips approaching and no cancellations in the coming weeks, I got out for a few hours today to locate some redfish and trout after the last five days of bad weather. Made it look easy with lots of redfish, trout and flounder taken on various baits including Gulp! Jerkshads, Baitfish, Shrimp, Lipless Cranks and even some decent topwater action. Fished for two hours and boated 7 redfish, 15 trout and 2 flounder. Lots of great fish around right now and Redfish University knows where they are and, most importantly, how to catch them! Trips tomorrow, Thursday and Friday and next week so we’ll report back soon. See everyone at Redfish U. soon. Yours, Eric...

Redfish University offers its thoughts and prayers to the families of lost loved-ones in the disaster, our friends, guides, commercial fisherman, recreational anglers and wildlife in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. The recent BP oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico may have a devastating impact on the entire Gulf Coast, especially its fisheries and the economy surrounding these fisheries. Redfish University pledges its full support to our friends to the west in hopes of a swift cleanup and recovery. Redfish University will donate 5% of its weekly earnings, or approximately $50-$100 per week, to assist in cleanup and recovery efforts. Also, Redfish University will offer its services and boats to assist in any local oil cleanup if the need arises. Because the impact on Florida waters is not yet know, Redfish University will continue normal guiding operations from Pensacola, FL. to Panama City FL. and all destinations in between. We have contacted many booked clients and have updated them on current events. Since Redfish University covers the entire Gulf Coast of Florida, guiding locations can easily be moved east in the event of oil reaching our area. Destinations like Destin, Santa Rosa Beach and Panama City are very familiar and regularly guided areas at Redfish University. Of course, Redfish University clients are free to cancel and RU retrieves no deposit for booking so please feel free to cancel your reservations for a later date if you see fit. See everyone soon, E...
