Guided Mr. George Converse and his friend from Birmingham this morning. These guys were excellent anglers and really fun to fish with! I was a little concerned with the passing front, the high pressure and the west wind, but we really caught alot of fish today. With all species being pretty sluggish today, we focused on very, very slow retrieve techniques, boat positioning for optimal casting angles and the use of worm rattles in our Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads rigged with 1/4oz. Marsh Works bull red jigheads. We found plenty of redfish and trout on some wind-blown banks and creek drains. We also picked off some nice trout and flounder in some open-water areas with uneven bottom. To our surprise, 2 small striped bass were brought to the boat. Bait presentation and rattle was the key today. We focused on areas where there were good numbers of fish and used a “tap, tap, tap, stop” retrieval which proved to be too much for the fish to handle. Lots of bites on resting baits, pick-ups and falls which indicated these fish were following and interested, but just needed to smell the Gulp! All together we stuck 12-15 Redfish of all sizes, 15-20 trout from 12-17″, a 3# flounder and 2 striped bass. A great day under difficult conditions. Please click on a photo to...

Got out this morning in the cold and wind to do some prefishing for some upcoming trips. Make a quick milk-run, fished for exactly 2 hours with Randy Hamilton and found lots of fish in lots of places. 25-3omph winds and very low water conditions made it easy! Caught a handful of decent redfish, some very nice trout and a big flounder. Slow retrieve was key. See everyone...

Fished with my friend and fellow tournament angler, Mike Tindal, this morning in Blackwater and Pensacola Bay. Found some small tailing fish in some shallow areas but they were pretty difficult. Ended up sticking some good quality fish in sandy bottom areas with lots of mullet. Also caught some decent trout and a very nice flounder in the same areas. Buzzed some other areas around the bay and saw quite a few fish. All fish...
Read MoreSolid Slams and some Tripletail at Redfish University- July 19, 2009
Guided Mr. Rajiv Rajah and his girlfriend Stacy on a short trip in Escambia and Blackwater Bays this morning. Both had never fished inshore before with artificials and I think I made true believers out of them! Started out early with some very nice flounder and then moved to some very productive tripletail areas. We quickly stuck two beautiful tripletail on a very shallow bank. Focused on some sand flats that were loaded with bait which produced some quality trout. Finally, we ran north and found some redfish on a very shallow bar connected to some thick grass flats. All fish caught on Gulp! Jerkshads in camo. All redfish and trout were released. Tripletail and flounder went home with Rajiv and Stacy for the grill. Please CLICK on image to...
Read MoreLots of Slams and Tripletail! July 9, 2009
Guided Mr. Randy Hamilton this morning in Escambia and East Bay. Multiple Grand Slams of redfish, trout and flounder with some tripletail mixed in. We found the redfish a little difficult at first but figured it out and found some fish concentrated in 6-8 ft. of water. The new Hewes 21 Redfisher proved to be a fish catching machine like the last one as we boated a ridiculous amount of fish in a 3.5 hour period. The fishing is difficult in the upper bays but knowing where they are on the various tides is the key. Lots of fish in very few places. All fish caught on Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads in camo and Gulp 3″ Shrimp in lime tiger. No rattles were needed today as the water was pretty clear. Oh, saw one 15# tarpon which charged the boat and bounced off us in a hurry. We’ll get him next time. All fish released except 7 Flounder and 1 Tripletail. Don’t forget, September 1 marks the $250.00 shallow water redfish trips in East, Escambia and Blackwater Bays. Book now as I will be EXTREMELY busy. Please CLICK on an image to...
