Back to Destin for Redfish University-October 22, 2010

Many anglers have found yesterday’s report from Destin visually stimulating. As a result, it looks like Redfish University will be spending quite a bit of time in Destin in the near future. Did a little overtime today so this afternoon’s guide trip in Pensacola was postponed until next week. Guided Mr. Shane Johnson and his mom, Mrs. Johnson, this morning over in Destin, FL. Both were looking for some inshore tips and techniques for redfish and trout. Started with topwaters and Gulp! Jerkshads in camo early in the morning and found the redfish and trout very, very difficult. We picked up some trout but nothing great. Visited some local bayous but it was really off. Good news was that we could go hit the big redfish early. Found the same groups of oversized fish as the day before and caught fish between 15-28.5#. Mrs. Johnson’s largest fish previous to this trip was a 20# salmon. Needless to say, she smashed that record many times over and won the “chicken dinner” with the 28.5# massive redfish. Worth mentioning is how impressed I was with Mrs. Johnson’s casting, retrieving technique and fish fighting ability. This young lady really knew her stuff and was really fun to fish with!! Anyway, we were able to sight fish most of these huge redfish in less than 5 feet of water and even blindcast a few with some exciting pursuits in the mix. Naturally, the 4″ Gulp! Shrimp in lime tiger gets the job done everytime. The Gulp! in combination with the Marsh Works Bull Red jigheads is a great bait for these fish. Haven’t straighted a Marsh Work bait yet but oh! do we try!! All fish released. Book now to experience the thrill of Redfish University. Please click an image to enlarge and view...

Awesome morning of Redfish, Speckled Trout and more at Redfish University-September 17, 2010

Another full week of guiding trips has come to an end and I’m ready for another quiet weekend! Guided Lloyd and Malanae Taylor this morning for some redfish and trout action. The plan was to catch a bunch of fish to be prepared at Aegean Breeze this evening. Started at first-light with some topwater action and really got into some nice trout. Switch over to some sub-surface baits and they produced even more. Malanae was the big winner with the trout and even found a big lost Spanish mackerel in the mix.  Travelled a short distance to find some big redfish on a flat and Malanae stuck the first monster and it was game on. She got the 17# fish to the boat with a huge grin on her face. Caught a few more redfish and took off to get some redfish to eat. We quickly found plenty of redfish to take Johnson Gold Spoons sight fished and blindcast. These fish are very easy to catch when you see them as it seems they receive zero pressure and are very comfortable. Most fish released and some will be blackened and Aegean-style over at Aegean Breeze this evening. Book now to experience Redfish University! E Holstman Please click an image to enlarge and view...

Great morning of Redfish, Trout and Flounder at Redfish University-September 15, 2010

Guided long-time client and one of my favorite anglers to fish with, Mr. Bob Willice, this morning. Hit the water very early and actually had about 15 minutes to wait once we arrived at our area due to darkness and one small rain shower. Started launching topwaters at first light and produced quite a few speckled trout of all sizes. We had some big redfish blowups but no hookups. That’s okay, we knew what to do! Found the large schools of mullet and bait and began to stick very good quality redfish in the 23-27″ range. Great looking orange, fat fish. Very slow-rolled 1/4oz. Johnson Gold Spoons were the bait of choice with all the loose grass on the surface and they performed nicely. Took off and fished some sand and grass mix to grab some more quality redfish. They were pretty aggressive all morning. Total: 15 great Redfish(23-27″), lots of trout, a grouper and a flounder. All fish released including the two beasts in the livewell back at the ramp. Lots of Redfish and Trout at Redfish University-September 10, 2010

Full week of guiding and ready for a quiet weekend. Then back at it everyday next week as well. Guided Mr. Wayne Hughes and Jamison this morning for some early morning topwater speckled trout action and then some sight fishing for redfish. Left the ramp at 530am and ran way east to some very productive trout and redfish banks. The fish were much more active this morning on a quick falling tide and we had a great morning of nice speckled trout and redfish topwater explosions. Threw a few quality trout in the well and took off to find the redfish. It didn’t take long to boat several redfish between 24-35″. Found a large school of fish and at some points we all had redfish coming to the boat. These fish were concentrating around bait in 4-6′ of water and were readily taking Gulp! Jerkshads and Johnson Gold Spoons. The guys kept some fish to eat for dinner and we were off the water by 1000am. Packed schedule for the next few weeks at Redfish University but there are a few dates available the last week of September and also some in October. Another “Five Hour Tour” at Redfish University-September 8, 2010

Guided Mr. Daniel Stevenson this morning on a  tour of Pensacola Bay. Daniel really wanted to get a handle on the redfish and speckled trout fishing in the Pensacola area and especially some productive areas in the Fall and Winter months. Departed the ramp at 600am and travelled all over Escambia, Pensacola, East and Blackwater Bay(river) where Redfish University finds large amounts of redfish and trout from now until the Spring. Stopped and fished some areas, then stopped and talked about some areas that will continue to get better as the weather cools. We caught redfish and trout pretty much every spot including some surprise fish in some areas far to the north. Seems they’ve already started populating some cold weather areas. At the end of the trip, I provided Daniel with twenty pages of great literature describing the areas we covered, baits to use, tides to fishing and overall choices in tackle. Great trip and lots of informative fishing talk! Daniel’s ready to go!! Instructional trips and tours of Pensacola Bay are incredibly valuable to inshore anglers and their future angling success. Sounds like a great Christmas gift! Book now to get a spot and experience Redfish...
