Guide trip #150 of 2012 for Redfish University-Aug. 21-22, 2012

Yesterday, Redfish University performed guide trips #149 and #150 for the 2012 season. Our goal was 150 trips for the year so that’s not too shabby for an extremely specialized guide service in NW Florida. Honestly, the plan was 2-3 trips per week but sometimes things just don’t go as planned. We accredit this success to excellent customer service, customer satisfaction and incredible results. This translates into a unparalleled reputation and huge repeat business. Thank you Redfish University anglers. The last few days have been spectacular with huge numbers of speckled trout, legal/oversized redfish, schools of 4-10# black drum, some flounder, big jacks and of course, the sharks are always around. The early morning hours are providing some excellent topwater opportunities for redfish and trout while the afternoons require a reverse order. Typically, I will warmup Redfish University anglers with some fun jumping sharks or topwater jacks. These are extremely easy targets and a great time-filler while we wait for the tides and the afternoon cool off. Around 430pm we will head east and attack the redfish, trout and black drum. Two Grand Slam trips on Tuesday and Wednesday and Aegean Breeze is rounding out my anglers great Pensacola experience with some blackened redfish, fried trout and stuffed flounder. Sometimes I feel my clients enjoy Starvos’ cooking more than my guiding!! Thanks again, E...

Pensacola redfish, speckled trout and sharks at Redfish University-August 17-20, 2012

August 17-20, 2012. It was another great weekend of productive fishing trips at Redfish University. Redfish University clients are a step above in angling experience and consistent in their demands. Our anglers insist on the use of artificial baits, the best saltwater equipment available(Maverick/Hewes/Pathfinder, Yamaha, Berkley, Abu Garcia, Penn, Patagonia, Oakley, etc.), the most qualified instructor/guide, solid reputation and unparalleled results. Plain and simple… this is why the fishing community chooses Redfish University time after time. The redfish and speckled trout remain predictable and plentiful in Pensacola Bay and Santa Rosa Sound. Sebile Bongas and Stickshadds early and then Johnson Gold Spoons for the redfish and Gulp! Jerkshads and Shrimp for the speckled trout. In the late mornings and afternoons, Shark Week is still on everyone’s mind and we’re not disappointing here at Redfish University with some really nice catches of blacktip sharks in the 2-5′ range with a few coming in over 100# this past weekend. These sharks are obviously handles with care, the hook is removed and they are released unharmed after a few photos. Busy all week thanks to the huge numbers of repeat clients at Redfish University as well as many new clients and anglers that have found a home at Redfish U. Thank you everyone! E...

Redfish/Trout mornings, Shark Week afternoons at Redfish University-August 15-16, 2012

Just trying to catch up here at Redfish U. Running double trips for many days to come. Our mornings our full of speckled trout and redfish and our afternoons are full of sharks in celebration of Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week.” The redfish/trout have been more cooperative in deeper water but we’re still getting plenty on Sebiles in the early morning. Slow Gulps! will sweep up the rest. The sharks are ranging from 2-5′ and are plentiful throughout the bay. Doubles tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday and then throughout next week and another extended vacation may be in order. Thank you Redfish University clients!! E...

Shark Week at Redfish University!!!-Aug. 10-14, 2012

Back from London and I really enjoyed the 2012 Olympics, Amberley Castle and visiting with my Euro-mates. London always impresses and the Olympics were beautifully orchestrated. I really have some catching up to do at Redfish University and thanks to all the regular and new clients that have waited so graciously. Every year during Shark Week on Discovery, anglers call from all over the country to go shark fishing. Apparently, not many anglers are reading the Redfish University website but I’ll do some easy afternoon shark fishing trips all week this week and next! It’s almost as easy as bottom fishing in Pensacola Pass with the other charter fishers. We’re still catching the regular limits of quality speckled trout and redfish every morning from 515-1015am. Topwater Sebiles and Gulp! both will outfish livebait everyday. For the shark fishing, I’ve been using strips of ladyfish on 100# mono and a circle hook. To make it interesting, our anglers will use the same 6-10# light tackle(Penn Conquer 2000-4000/Abu Garcia Veritas and Penn Legion rods) for these 2-5′ black tip sharks. Many of the sharks will jump and all are clipped at the boat. Occasionally, a small, easily handled specimen will enter the boat for photo and educational purposes. A little nerve-racking at times but great fun and a nice change for Redfish University...
