Pensacola Fishing Charters at Redfish University. 100 trips came quickly this year! Thanks everyone! The last ten Redfish University trips have consisted of instructional sessions and guided inshore sessions including some double-bookings last Tuesday and Thursday. Thankfully, many of our trips in last week were catch and release outings and we are rotating many different areas nicely as to not over-fish many very productive flats and banks. Pre-cold front conditions on May 9th and 10th were ideal for our shallow water redfish and speckled trout with huge catches of quality speckled trout on topwater Sebile Bongas and Stickshadds as well as a handful of redfish in the 21-25″ range. As the small front passed last night weekend after returning from vacation, we were confronted with low humidity, high pressure and difficult tide conditions from Monday to Wednesday afternoon. Topwater did work but the fish certainly were not as aggressive as the following week. Small, detailed adjustments and concentrating around large numbers of speckled trout and redfish in this case, increased our catch-rate tremendously. We still picked up some great fish on Sebile Bongas and StickShadds but we switched to Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads and Mantis Shrimp to secure more and more bites. It was very similar to Winter-time techniques in mid-May. As the week progressed, higher humidity and cloud-cover approached and dramatically improved the attitudes of both targeted species. Our Redfish University morning sessions take place from 5am-10am in a variety of locations with a few targeting the Big Lagoon area last week with some clients renting a beachhouse in the area. Our afternoon trips will begin at roughly 300pm and go until dark. In this instance, we are warming up on the shallow water jumping blacktip sharks for the first hour or so and then traveling to the redfish and speckled trout grounds later in the day as our most exciting action will take place from 5pm until dark.
It’s going to be another outstanding week of instructional and guided fishing sessions here at Redfish University this week. Redfish University is the only place to be for Pensacola inshore fishing with strictly artificial baits. Thanks to masses of Cyberangler members and followers that have attended Redfish University this year. Take care, E Holstman
