We’ve had some excellent redfish, speckled trout and flounder trips late last week and over the weekend at Redfish University. We also pulled out a crowd favorite over the weekend. Back by popular demand was Sponge Bob. With Tropical Storm Isaac approaching, the fish predictably went into a rabid feeding mode. A few days, catches of quality speckled trout exceeded 60 fish, while the redfish bit very well in deeper areas. It was difficult to target the redfish on the flats due to the huge numbers of very aggressive 15-23″ speckled trout. I’ve had some clients ask about the Sponge Bob fishing rod that I use from time to time especially on television. I had the opportunity to toss a Sebile on the kids rod, highly entertain some VIP clients and actually stick a few trout in the 3# range!! Most mornings produced a very quick two-angler limit of quality trout on Sebile Bongas and we cleaned up the rest on Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads. We’ve postponed Tuesday’s, Wednesday’s and today’s Redfish University guide trip which should make things quite interesting for scheduling in the coming days around Labor Day weekend. Patience. Good things come to those who wait at Redfish University. Take care and thanks again, E Holstman
