Pensacola redfish, speckled trout and flounder festival at Redfish University-April 9-12, 2012

The month of April has been outstanding for redfish, speckled trout and flounder here in Pensacola. Ten trips in seven days is too much when I only want four trips per week!! No complaints (I guess:)) It’s always a nice start to the day with 40-50 quality speckled trout on Sebile Bongas and Gulp! Jerkshads. We’ve really found some large trout lately with several hitting the 5# mark and countless 3#plus fish in the mix. The redfish have been really predictable as well with most fish coming from schools of mullet on shallow flats and troughs. Gulp! Jerkshads in camo and Johnson 1/4oz. Gold Spoons are our favorite baits for the redfish that are cleaning up in the mullet turbulence. We’ve also seen some flounder on muddy bottoms and have stuck several fish this week. It seems the bigger redfish on the shallow flats near Pensacola Pass have become a bit more unpredictable with only a handful of bulls taken this week. Soon, we will concentrate 100% on the redfish and speckled trout on the shallow bay flats. Fishing is excellent! Thanks, E Holstman. Please click an image to...

Loads of redfish and speckled trout at Redfish University-April 3-7, 2012

Guiding everyday, sometimes twice a day, with some very talented anglers looking to take speckled trout and redfish on artificial baits. Countless bass anglers from the north have really enjoyed and have been treated to some spectacular April fishing here in Pensacola. Targeting a variety of shallow water flats in the Pensacola Bay system to produce countless speckled trout with many in the 3-5# range and 10-20 redfish between 20-30″. Find the mullet and bait and you will find both species happy to take both Sebile Bonga Minnows and a range of Gulp! baits. Thanks, E Holstman. Please click an image to...

Pensacola redfish, speckled trout and weather at Redfish University-Mar.30-Apr.2

We’ve been having some early morning thunderstorms for the last few days so the rescheduling tricks at Redfish University have begun during the very busy season. The fishing in Pensacola has been excellent for our specialties of redfish and speckled trout in shallow water. Early morning topwaters with Sebile Bonga Minnows has been as good as is gets!! Nearly every cast will produce a quality speckled trout in the 15-22″ range and there are plenty of 20-25″ redfish mixed in for some high quality entertainment. Concentrating on flats with huge amounts of mullet and bait is of the upmost importance as this is exactly where both the redfish and speckled trout want to congregate. These fish are both feeding on the smaller mullet and fish bait as well as picking up crustaceans, shrimp, small crabs, etc. in the turbulence behind the large school of bigger mullet. Topwaters from daylight to 730am and then over to the Gulp! Jerkshads and Johnson Spoons to clean up the rest. We’re also finding decent numbers of flounder smoking off the banks and can be easily caught if targeted directly. Fishing is absolutely fantastic right now. We have some trips packed together at the end of this week due to some weather delays and then more great action next week with an outstanding tide all week. Book now while limited days are still available. Thanks, E Holstman Please click an image to...

Pensacola redfish, big trout and bulls at Redfish University-March 27-28, 2012

Plenty of bull redfish, legal redfish and big speckled trout here in Pensacola, FL. Guided some fellas from Maine/Jacksonville on Monday who just wanted to sight fish some large redfish in shallow water. Started a little later than normal at 7am so that we’d have plenty of sun for our five hour trip. Arrived at our first stop and an immediate double hookup with a 33# and a 25# bull redfish. It continued on like that for a while and moved on to some other shallow flats. All fish caught on Berkley Gulp! 4″ Shrimp in lime tiger. Today, I had some great anglers from Starkville, MS. who wanted to catch some fish for dinner and then go hit the same groups of bull redfish that they had been reading about. Started very early this morning and ran way to the east. Our bank was a little wind-blown but we couldn’t resist some topwater redfish and speckled trout action. They were pretty interested in the topwaters this morning but with the all the surface distraction in the form of 1′ chop, the fish definitely had a problem targeting the baits. They didn’t have a problem when we went through the same area again with Berkley Gulp! 5″ Jerkshads and put the hammer to them. Awesome quality fish this morning with most in the 3-4# range and very healthy. A few redfish but nothing great so I took them to the REDFISH. Arrived at our spot and saw them immediately. Got a few fish hooked and to the boat but not as many as yesterday. A fun few days of fishing with some really cool clients and back at it for another 8 days straight. Thanks everyone for choosing Redfish University as your guide service here on the Gulf Coast. Thank, E Holstman Please click an image to...

Pensacola, Destin redfish and trout at Redfish University-March 23-26, 2012

Hello! I had a feeling this Winter, with the huge number of RU trips, this fun, part-time hobby I call Redfish University was going to get out of hand this Spring and Summer. Thank you to everyone who has fished, will fish and is currently fishing at Redfish University. It’s more than I expected, really. March 23-26 was actually 5 trips in 4 days. Hence, the opening drama. Definitely not doing anymore daily double trips. Fished Destin a few times, Navarre once and then the rest here in Pensacola. All areas along the Gulf Coast continue to be excellent and catching tons of fish is absolutely no problem. Lots of speckled trout and legal redfish in the upper bays of Choctawhatchee Bay as well as larger redfish in Ft. Walton and the deeper flats around Destin. Pensacola Bay has come alive and some areas that haven’t been productive in years are really firing on all cylinders at the moment, a result of a mild Winter no doubt. Topwaters on the flats early, then Johnson Spoons and Gulp! for the rest of the session. Fishing should be fantastic all week, with you guessed it, Redfish University trips all week. Going straight to Belize when I’m done for some lounge-time and fishing on my own. Adjo! Thank, E Holstman Please click an image to...
