Redfish, Trout then shark fishing at Redfish University-September 6, 2010

Guided Kyle and Brett Lawrence this morning. The brothers were looking for some redfish and trout action in the early morning hours then some shark fishing during the last part of the trip. Started at 515am and ran way east in search of redfish and trout. We found the bite to be a little slow in some areas that are normally outstanding. Made an adjustment and really started hammering the speckled trout with some redfish mixed in. Some fish took the topwaters and some on the Berkley Gulp! Jerkshads. After the early morning action, we shot off to the beach to do some sightfishing for sharks. Got on the trolling motor on the east and west side of Pensacola Pass but only saw one shark that was not at all interested. Cruised back inside the bay and checked a few more shallow flats for cruising sharks. Nothing. We even found it difficult to scrape up a few ladyfish and bluefish. Ended up hitting an area where I knew there were sharks of all sizes although we weren’t going to see them. We found plenty of sharks and the runs were extremely consistent. Ended up boating 8-10 sharks between 2-5 feet. Lots of fun on light tackle and had some very large fish on the 4/0 rod only to drop the hook. All fish released today. Trips all week with a few openings next week. Book now to experience Redfish University!! Please click an image to enlarge and view...

Quick topwater speckled trout trip at Redfish University-September 5, 2010

Guided Mr. Jim Stanford this morning for a very quick topwater trip. Started fishing at 545am and we were done at 900am in time for my traditional Sunday brunch at the Hilton. Lots of speckled trout and a handful of redfish were found in two very productive areas. Most of the trout were 16-22″ with some smaller ones mixed in. Also found a few oversized redfish in the shallows as well as a tarpon that just wouldn’t take a bait. All fish...

Lots of speckled trout but no redfish at Redfish University-September 3, 2010

Had a short topwater trip this morning back in Pensacola Bay. Took off at 515am and quickly ran east to some shallow flats. Great topwater action most of the morning but the fish were only on one stretch of bank. Found some very nice quality speckled trout and did hook one over-sized(32-35″) redfish only to have the hooks pull at the boat. That’s topwaters for ya!! Switched over to Gulp! Jerkshads as the sun rose with similar consistent success. Back at the ramp at 930am and kept 5 nice trout for dinner. **Saturday and Sunday are open this weekend because of a last minute cancellation so take advantage and experience Redfish University. In any event, it will be nice to have the weekend off!! E...

Another stellar day of redfish and trout at Redfish University- September 1, 2010

Guided Mr. Ken Shultz this morning. Ken wanted to learn as many productive areas and techniques as he could this morning. Like all instruction Redfish University trips, I filled him with tons of valuable information and kept his rod bent all morning long. Started at 530am and runned and gunned all over north and east Pensacola Bay. Stopped in an area for 15 minutes , threw some baits and caught plenty of speckled trout and medium redfish. Started with topwaters, played with sub-surface hardbaits, went to Gulp! baits and even threw some Johnson Gold Spoons to produce some sightfished redfish. Fished areas with lots of bait and mullet, fished some without any. Caught quality fish pretty much everywhere we fished and an assortment of baits and techniques. Ken is set!!! All fish released. Lots and lots of instruction trips and regular trips from now through December. Book now to get a spot. As the weather cools, the fishing will get very hot and Redfish U. dates are very limited. Thanks again, E...

Redfish and trout on a client’s new Pathfinder at Redfish University-August 20, 2010

Guided Mr. Edwin Yee and his son, Jordan, this morning. Edwin is the new owner of a beautiful 22 Pathfinder from The Ships Chandler in Destin, FL. Edwin and Jordan wanted to become a bit more familiar with the boat’s capabilities and find some places to catch fish on it in Pensacola Bay. I think both goals were accomplished today. Started out with some topwaters and suspending hardbaits in shallow water. Found plenty of small speckled trout with a few nice one mixed in. It seems some areas have been infested with ladyfish, small Spanish mackerel, sharks and big jacks. Not an optimal quartet for consistent catches of redfish and trout. Travelled to some other productive areas and found the action to be abnormally slow. We did catch some quality 3-4# trout but it was one here, one there and very spotty. Ran north to find some redfish in shallow, muddy areas and found huge amounts of bait in one large pocket. Pulled a few decent redfish out of there and struggled after 1000am with slow water and minimal concentrations of fish. I sure wish the rains and winds would stop for a while!! All fish release except a few nice trout and redfish for the grill. Please click an image to enlarge and view...
