Two great trips today at Redfish University-Sept. 21, 2012

Busy, busy, busy. We had two very productive trips today. This morning, we hit the speckled trout hard and found some redfish in all sizes. Our anglers kept a limit of quality trout for a cookout. This afternoon, we started with some shark fishing around 230pm as we waiting for the water to rise. At 430pm, we took off to the east and found plenty of speckled trout and redfish until dark. Our anglers took just enough fish to eat tonight at Aegean Breeze. Back at it in the morning. Thanks, E...

Pensacola’s inshore fishing at its best at Redfish University-Sept. 19-20, 2012

Staying very busy and catching lots of fish at Redfish University. The speckled trout fishing has been extremely consistent and predictable in the last few weeks while the redfish have been easy to find but sometimes tricky to catch. Finding a lot of redfish in the 28-31″ range which are great for entertainment but obviously have to be released. Starting with Sebile Stickshadds the last few days to insure quick action and solid connections with most fish being taken in 1-3′ of water within schools of mullet and great water movement. Some areas are still a bit stained so we’ve been inserting a small plastic worm rattle in all Gulp! baits to draw nearby fish. This really makes a difference. The dreaded double booking tomorrow and then 6 days straight. It’s great to be Redfish University! Thanks again to all of the wonderful Redfish U anglers for making 2012 an epic year. On pace to hit 225 trips this year and I can only imagine the chaos in 2013!! E...

Mornings and afternoons at Redfish University-Sept 16-18, 2012

The last five trips in three days have been outstanding here at Redfish University despite some neap tides on Sunday, heavy rains and winds on Monday and very windy conditions today(Tuesday). All scenerios can present a challenge, but finding hungry fish is the key. Busy enough to do a few afternoon double bookings as well with some local anglers looking for some top-notch inshore fishing instruction, techniques and highly productive areas. While there are plenty of talented anglers vacationing and fishing with Redfish University, it’s the local regulars, new resident anglers and military visitors in search of world-class instruction that we enjoy the most. As the water temperatures haven’t dropped, we’ve been concentrating on similar Summer areas where plenty of redfish, quality speckled trout and flounder have been on the menu nearly all year. Topwater Sebiles have been great early, followed by some Stickshadds and then some Gulp! Jerkshads and perhaps some Johnson 1/4oz Gold Spoons. Four proven baits from Pure Fishing and their results will speak for themselves. Each of the five outing in the last three day presented very different and specific quandaries with today’s trip ending pretty slow, but nonetheless, much was learned and much was caught. Typical trips consist of 25-40+ speckled trout, 6-12 redfish and 1-5 flounder. Guiding the next four mornings with two catch trips and two instructional trips. Thanks, E...

High winds and pressure won’t stop Redfish University-Sept. 12-13, 2012

Some really steady trips on Wednesday and today, even if the winds and conditions slightly limited our areas of operation. We’ve been launching on protected banks, or as protected as possible from a direct east wind at 15-20mph. If we can get to my productive areas, we will catch fish and this is why I’m in a 2012 Pathfinder 2300 HPS. I can’t say enough about the Pathfinder 2300 or the whole Maverick Boat Company product line for that matter. My Pathfinder is truly the best bay boat made… period, end of statement. Let’s get to the fishing. Both mornings, we started with Sebile Stickshadds to stick numerous speckled trout in the 2-4# range including a few medium redfish in the mix. As the morning went on, we switched to a great technique to fish a little deeper water and sand ledges. The drop-shot rig really works wonders around timid fish in off-color water. The insertion of a plastic worm rattle in the Gulp! baits also draws more strikes. A few other top-secret techniques won’t be offered, you’ll just have to visit Redfish U. to learn how to triple your catch of redfish and speckled trout. And no… we never use livebait!! Thanks, E...

Transitional redfish and trout lessons at Redfish University-Sept. 10-11, 2012

Well, we had a nice little break from all the fishing the few weeks and returned just in time for some very nice Fall weather. This can be a tricky time of year for anglers and inexperienced guides with small cold fronts, irratic pressure and windy mornings. It’s important to remember that although the temperatures are a bit cooler right now, the water temperature hasn’t dropped yet. With a morning north wind, blue-bird skies and rising pressure, it’s extremely important to be around large numbers of redfish/speckled trout and demonstrate the correct and most productive techniques and baits. This is yet another obvious reason to choose the proven instruction at Redfish University for your inshore guiding services. Normally in the Fall, a slow-walked Sebile Bonga will produce some strikes and this held true both mornings. I wouldn’t say they were overly aggressive but our anglers seem to always want to start with the Bongas. After our first pass, we turned around and tripled our catch with Stickshadds and Gulp! Jerkshads. Both mornings we covered 12-15 areas and caught fish in every spot. Both mornings yielded 30-35 trout and a handful of redfish in all sizes. Transitional weather can be a difficult and frustrating period for anglers especially in the Fall. It’s always a fantastic idea to book an instructional/fish catching lesson with the Professor at Redfish University. One class is all it takes! Cheers, E...
